Cordially Invited II Digital Exhibit

Make Studio is excited to bring back Cordially Invited, our invitational exhibition and showcase of artists working at progressive studios. This year's celebration is bigger and better as it’s part of our extended 10th anniversary celebration.

Although Make Studio is a unique program in Baltimore, it’s one of several dozen progressive studios (also known as "art centers for persons with disabilities") in the world. In contrast to other programs serving people with disabilities, "the progressive art studio instead strives to allows artists to create complex, long-term, high value works of fine art. Rather than attempting to simplify tasks that are counterintuitive to an individual, the progressive art studio strives to empower one to become productive using the working practices that are intuitive to them already - an acceptance model, rather than an assimilation model" (Ortiz & Donahue, 2014-2018). The art produced in studios likes ours is often unexpected, and exciting and thought-provoking for that reason, and invites the art-loving public to better appreciate our neuro-diverse world.

For 2019, along with this central exhibition in our gallery, Cordially Invited includes a satellite of "pop-up" displays in partnering venues around Baltimore, and a digital gallery, which you can explore right here.
